We have been talking for years about how God’s word in our mouth is still God’s word and that he uses us to share his message of Grace and Salvation with those trapped in their sin. We are very clear that our salvation is not based on what we do, but on what Christ has done for us. But God has still called and chosen us to do good works to further His kingdom. Our good works do not save us, but God does work through our good works to save others. Our sin does not change God’s heart. He loves us even as sinners. But our sin does have consequences. Bill Cosby, and his Cosby Show was acknowledged by all as the having a profound positive impact on American family values. Possibly, more than any other show in history. But that positive voice was silenced by his sin.
Back to Judge Kavanaugh. He has the reputation of being a great judge. But sin whether real or perceived can silence his voice and render him ineffective.
We all live on this edge. Satan is determined to steal God’s word from us. “Did God really say?” Genesis 3:1
We need to strive to not sin or even have the appearance of sin, because it mutes God’s word in us, but we must also remind ourselves that when we sin God still forgives us. We continue to cling to His grace.
Isaiah said, 5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
And so in God’s grace we continue to proclaim, “He has saved us” and to tell the World, “He has saved them.”
