Isaiah said:
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.
It is easy for us to look and see evil around us. When I contemplate all the wrong in our world I must admit there is no way I can fix it. It seems at times the darkness is creeping closer and closer. But it was to this sin filled world that Christ came. He came to be the light. And light always wins. It over takes the darkness.
Isaiah continues:
Lift up your eyes and look about you: All assemble and come to you;
your sons come from afar, and your daughters are carried on the hip.
Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy;
the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come.
The wise men looked up and saw the star and it lead them to the Christ child. When we see Jesus, his light shines on us and reveals our sinful flesh. It shows us that we are part of the darkness. We focus on ourselves. We want to be the center of the universe. Jesus chooses not to be the center and focuses on us. He chooses to die that we might have life. He takes our darkness into himself. His light illumines the darkness. When we look to Jesus we see His light and not our darkness and he makes us radiant. We in turn reflect his light and even the smallest of reflections becomes visible in the Darkness, but he promises more. He promises we will be radiant.
May we look to the light of Christ and see and reflect His light.
