It does appear we are in a time of increased human violence, and an increase in violent nature. It is therefore prudent for us to take heed of this and turn to the one who actually is in control.
Lamentations 3:22-24 (ESV)
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
Scripture teaches us that hard times will continue to happen, and those time are an opportunity to turn to Christ and find our strength in Him. They are also an opportunity to reach out and show God’s love to others. It seems all too often our human response is to fight and attack one another or to retreat and isolate ourselves from the pain. These times, however, are an amazing opportunity to help those who are hurting. They are an opportunity to bring Jesus and His love to those who feel overwhelmed and struck down. It is a time for us to feast on God’s Word of Grace found in Christ Jesus. It is a time to be reminded of Jesus love for all of us. A time for us to be nourished and be given the resources to reach out and help those who are hurting around us.
St. Paul writes in Romans 8
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
