The truth is we will never fully understand and these events only continue to prove that human kind is capable of inconceivable acts of violence. It is a humbling example of how evil can take over a single person and wield untold damage.
But it also should be a reminder of just how desperately we need a savior. I am amazed by the comments; “now is not the time for prayer, but for action.” Is this not also a prayer?
It is a plea for our government to protect us. The plea goes out for new legislation that will prevent this for happening again. But more than anything it reminds me that as a society we have so lost our faith/belief in a supreme being and creator. That instead of seeking God’s help we look to the government to fix it.
That is the sad reality of our lostness. In Exodus, even God’s people grew tired of waiting on God to lead them and they built a golden calf. As if the God we create ourselves is better than The Great I Am who orders all things. We can’t fix evil. We need God to come and recreate us. We need The Great I Am to come into our world and break the powers of darkness.
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
Who orderest all things mightily,
To us the path of knowledge show,
and teach us in her ways to go.
My friends, the Word has become flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen His Glory … The one and only, who came from the father, full of grace and truth. May his Word also dwell in us that His Word and light would break the powers of darkness. Amen!
